Location: Lafayette, Louisiana

Challenge:
A thermal processing plant in Lafayette, Louisiana, needed a high-speed wire rope hoist. Used in a heat treating and quenching operation, the hoist had to have fast lifting speeds to ensure quick transport of a load from the oven to the quenching tank.

Previously, the application used a competitor’s hoist with a lifting speed of 130 feet per minute (fpm), but faster speeds were required.

Solution:
Working together with Olympic Crane and Fabrication, Columbus McKinnon provided a high-speed, monorail STAHL Crane Systems brand SH wire rope hoist. With the SH hoist in place, the customer can lift at speeds of 157 fpm, greatly speeding up the transport process. In addition to high speeds, the SH hoist was equipped with heat shields for protection against the high heat of the oven.

Other benefits of the STAHL CraneSystems SH hoist include:

  • Compact design
  • Low-maintenance, low-wear components for long hoist life
  • High-quality safety components, including a geared limit switch, motor temperature control, and overload device
  • Smooth starting and braking
