To help solve an ergonomic problem they were encountering on their assembly line, a large automotive OEM approached Columbus McKinnon’s Unified Industries and our Channel Partner for assistance. At the facility, employees working at the customer’s final assembly unload station were having difficulty moving the existing steel trussed overhead crane system – to the point that it even caused operator injury. A North American bus manufacturer wanted to automate their new vehicle model assembly to increase productivity while maintaining high quality standards. In order to achieve the increased throughput that is required, the company decided to install two identical monorail systems. Each 3-carrier monorail system was designed to move vehicle parts from an assembly conveyor onto the vehicle body that is located on an on-ground conveyor system.
