Screw jacks FAQ - Frequently asked questions
What is a machine screw jack and how does it work?
Screw jacks (also known as Worm Gear Screw Jack or Machine Screw Jack) consist of a gearbox (worm or bevel gearbox) and a screw (trapezoidal screw, ball screw), which converts a rotary motion into a linear motion with the support of a motor. Screw jacks can be used to lift, lower, tilt or move loads.
What is the difference between trapezoidal screw and ball screw jacks?
The self-locking trapezoidal screw jack from Pfaff-silberblau is designed in such a way that it is not possible for the nut or screw to move without external force being applied. The self-locking feature ensures a high level of safety due to its fall protection and makes it possible to dispense with a cost-intensive brake in many applications.
The ball screw is not self-locking and has a higher efficiency due to its design. This also allows faster lifting speeds and a higher duty cycle compared to the trapezoidal screw.
Need help selecting the right type of screw jack?
We offer different types of screw jacks, such as axial screw jacks or rotating screw jacks, gearbox designs (cubic screw jack, Stainless screw jacks). They can all be realised with a trapezoidal or ball screw and can be completed with a variety of options and extra features. In our catalogue you will find a Construction aid to help you make your choice, as well as more information on the individual series and their options.
